Embrace Classic Citrus-Lavender Freshness: Floris No. 89 Sample
Unveil heritage, gentlemanly luxury with Floris No. 89, the iconic Eau de Toilette launched in 1951. This woody aromatic masterpiece, a favorite of James Bond lore and timeless British elegance, opens with invigorating bergamot, orange, lavender, neroli, petitgrain, and a touch of nutmeg, evolving through spicy rose, geranium, and ylang-ylang, then grounding in oakmoss, sandalwood, vetiver, cedarwood, and musk for a fresh, powdery, and refined aura. It's crisp yet warm, citrusy yet floral, classic yet enduring—like a perfectly tailored suit with a burst of citrus and subtle rose in a mahogany-paneled club, intimate and endlessly sophisticated.
It opens with a bright, exhilarating burst of bergamot, orange, lavender, and neroli—for a zesty, aromatic-citrus lift that's clean, uplifting, and classically cologne-like. The heart unfolds with rose, geranium, and ylang-ylang, creating a soft, powdery floral bouquet that's spicy, slightly soapy, and refined, evoking gentle petals and nutmeg warmth with subtle herbal nuances. It dries down to a luxurious, lingering trail of oakmoss, sandalwood, vetiver, cedar, and musk—earthy, woody, and softly musky—creating an enduring, skin-hugging aura that's unisex-leaning masculine, polished, and quietly charismatic.

Frequently hailed as a timeless barbershop classic—fresh, powdery, and elegantly unisex-leaning—Floris No. 89 is described as a refined blend evoking bright bergamot-lavender citrus, airy rose, and mossy-woody base (often praised as "the ultimate gentleman scent," soapy yet complex, with beautiful balance and vintage charm). It's a versatile year-round staple (great for spring/fall or office/formal wear) that draws compliments for its refined subtlety, polished presence, and magnetic charm. Performance is moderate for an EDT: 6-10+ hours longevity (evolves gracefully, good on clothes), soft to moderate projection (close-to-skin intimacy with gentle aura), and pleasant sillage—evolving from citrus-lavender spark to a lingering powdery-woody finish. Fragrance lovers praise its heritage quality, seamless composition, and wearability, though some note it as "subtle" or skin-dependent—perfect for those seeking contemplative, non-flashy sophistication.

Refreshing...
Somewhat floral overall and very pleasant. Well priced. Great history, being a favorite of Churchill.

Classic English Gentleman
Floris no 89 immediately hits you with it's powdery and rosy scent. While rose doesn't necessarily strike most as being a masculine scent, I definitely think this scent is for men. I very much enjoy smelling Floris 89, but I must admit I don't think it is going to be something I wear often. I would almost prefer it as something I just occasionally smell in my office or in my dresser, rather than being a scent I want others to smell me by. It feels like a mature fragrance, that I might try again later in life. To me this is a great fragrance for a daytime English wedding.

Wonderful scent!
Delightful! Acts like a lightweight chypre; oak moss, fir, bergamot, and leather instead of labdanum. Rests in the vein of Dunhill for Men or Aramis 900 with amped up bergamot and a lighter, cleaner base. Just weak; not understated, but weak.

If it's good enough for James Bond...
I love James Bond and if his creator uses Floris and includes it in his books as the go to fragrance for James Bond 007 then it's my no. 1 choice. It smells so good and it's a clean smell. It's awesome.

Classic in every sense of the word . . .
I am new to fragrances and because of that have no knowledge of what, or how, to select a fragrance I can wear with confidence. I have purchased a few niche fragrances and I like them very much, but there was something missing from them which I could not figure out. While researching my favorite author, Ian Flemming, I had read from several sources that he was very fond of Floris .89 and with that, I decided to try a sample. I absolutely love this fragrance. It definitely has an old world charm and scent reminiscent of a time long past, but not forgotten. The scent brings to mind a time when men were gentlemen and knew how to treat a lady with dignity and respect, A simpler time when one took the time to enjoy life be it via walks on the beach or a pleasant dinner out with a wonderful companion. As a side note, it is well-known that Ian Flemming wrote of many of his personal habits and tastes and applied them to his world famous character, James Bond. Among Bond aficionados, it is a subject of much conjecture that Floris No. .89 would, as it was Flemmings' favorite cologne, would also be the unmentioned favorite of James Bond. I would tend to agree.
